If you are thinking about having a face lift or a nose job. Would you choose a Plastic Surgeon or a Cosmetic Surgeon? Do you know the difference?
The Medical Board of Australia does not recognise ‘Cosmetic Surgery’ as a specialty practice of surgery. You would think that if surgery is performed for any aesthetic purpose. It is ‘Cosmetic’.
Therefore; people would likely consider a ‘Cosmetic Surgeon’ to be the best qualified to do it.
This is not the case.
Only a “Plastic surgeon” is qualified to practice both Cosmetic, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.
A Plastic Surgeon, has a minimum of 12 years medical and surgical education.
Also; 5 years of specialist postgraduate training.
Is your Plastic Surgeon Board Certified in Australia or qualified in another country?
In Australia, you can look for a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon. look the letters FRACS (Plast Surg).
These are under their name.
Have you checked to see if they are a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)?
These titles and memberships are only available to fully qualified Plastic Surgeons.
They have undergone many years of training and exams in surgery.
This is far beyond the basic medical school training.
